The Most Surprising Things You Searched for on the Internet This Year
By Jeff Cattel
We turn to the Web to search for all of the questions we’re too embarrassed to ask. Does my poop look normal? How much sex is too much sex? And how many calories are in the slice of pizza I’m about to eat? Our friends at Google and Yahoo just released the top searches in food, fitness, and health from 2014. Many of the top searches are no brainers: We’re all still crazy about the Paleo Diet and juice cleanses. But there were plenty of searches that left us scratching our heads. Like these:
The Most Surprising Search Terms from 2014
Atkins Diet
A decade after it took the nation by storm, the Atkins Diet is back on top, coming in as the second most searched diet on Google in the past year—just behind the ever-popular Paleo Diet. We can thank Kim Kardashian, who used to diet to lose weight after giving birth to North West, for Atkins’ resurgence. But it’s doubtful Atkins will ever be as popular as it was in the early 2000s when one in 11 Americans followed the diet.
South Beach Diet
We thought the South Beach Diet went out of style with bucket hats in the early 2000s. But what goes around really does come around again—and both floppy hats and this low-carb diet are trendy again. South Beach came in at number eight on the list of the top 10 diet searches on Google this year. So break out those snack bars and shakes and party like it’s 2004.
